Implement Magnitsky Sanctions: Impose targeted sanctions on corrupt Pakistani military and government officials, and prohibit those involved in human rights violations from traveling to, residing in, or investing in Canada
Leverage Influence in the IMF: Use their position and diplomatic pressure within the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to ensure any new or existing loans to Pakistan are conditional upon:
The immediate release of Imran Khan and all political prisoners
Full guarantees of free and fair elections, and
The cessation of human rights abuses.

Maintain These Measures: Ensure these actions remain in place until Pakistan holds credible, free, and fair elections with the full participation of all opposition parties and their leaders. This petition underscores Canada's commitment to promoting democracy, protecting human rights, and holding perpetrators of injustice accountable. We urge the Canadian government to act decisively to address the concerns of Pakistani diaspora across the globe and support the democratic and human rights aspirations of the people of Pakistan.

Pakistani Canadians are deeply alarmed by the escalating political crisis in Pakistan, marked by:
The unjust removal of a democratically elected government,
The subsequent arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, and

A violent and deadly crackdown on November 26, 2024 on peaceful, unarmed protesters advocating for his release. Tragically, these actions have resulted in the deaths of over 100 protesters. The government is reportedly concealing the bodies of victims and denying these casualties, in an apparent attempt to erase evidence of this cold-blooded massacre.

The people of Pakistan, together with Pakistani Canadians, are gravely concerned by the blatant human rights violations committed by the Pakistani military and the incumbent government. These actions undermine democracy, violate fundamental freedoms, and demand urgent international attention.
